History

Phish performed Kiss' lynchpin anthem only once, during the legendary 2/20/93 second set at the Roxy. The song requires tuning the guitar down a half step – and the song’s performance was a step down from the rest of the set. During the “Weekapaug” weirdness, an impressive (though not impeccable) Gene Simmons impersonator appeared in the audience, near the stage and in front of Page.

As soon as Mike and Page started laying down the rhythm, Trey pulled the visitor onstage for a rousing though brief rendition of a song that includes the lyrics, “You say you wanna go for a spin / The party’s just begun. We’ll let you in” and “You’re looking fancy and I like your style.” It was a bit of comic relief, a theatrical pause in a roller-coaster setlist - very ‘70s!
