I'd like to weigh in on this event/postponement. I think I know what happened based on reading these comments, I'd like to divulge some info that might make people feel a little better...maybe...

We got in town Sunday, everything was pretty good in the city. Rains had been starting to get heavy over the previous few days but nothing like Monday afternoon. It was way too hot for the area, very unseasonable, and the heat and humidity spawned monster thunderstorm cells that were like waves pouring over the city. Our hotel was only 2 blocks from Front st., where the ground slopes down towards the lake and where the subway system is "above ground" if that makes sense (it goes under the city from there, towards the north). sorta like that. Anyway, Toronto got all of its July monthly average in 2 hours Monday from about 4pm-6pm. It was a total soaker. Lots of power outages all over, in the end 300,000 people without power. We wanted to go to dinner at a sick restaurant on the 54th floor of a high rise and the whole building lost power, people stuck in elevators, stuck in the restaurant, etc. Cars completely underwater, up to or past the roof underwater. A whole train leaving town with people who work in the city was stuck and they were stuck inside for 7 HOURS before getting rescued. Over all, the city was a mess.

We all had no idea the entire Ontario Place complex/island was out of power before getting there. Not only that but almost the whole lake front was out of power, over a dozen traffic lights completely out, etc. We were in line just 3 people behind the gate and the door didn't open at 6pm like scheduled. The gate guy said he had no idea, the event controllers tell them when to open the gates. It was a little odd, but the more we looked around, it seemed like something was off. Then about 6:10 a lot of cops came out towards the gate, inside. We thought, "wow, serious bag/body searches going to happen, they don't want contraband inside." We didn't care we had nothing but tickets and love to bring Then about 6:20 an event staffer made an announcement to the gate next to us, gate guy said to be quiet (he was really nice) and listen cuz it sounded important. then the dude came to us and said it was postponed till the 22nd due to the power being out. The power had been out all day. The cops must have been there to divert any averse reaction: there was none.

So here's the deal. No conspiracy, no secret plans, nothing. It was all due to power being out. The city was on roving blackouts since the night before and no one but the power company knew what was going to be turned off. If it was at the Air Canada Centre it would've happened, but on the water front, it was a no go. I heard they tried to get truck-sized generators in even, but didn't work. The band didn't get to sound check, they had no power to set up anything. The band and staff there worked past door time to see if they could pull off the show. The ticket box couldn't even print off tickets for will call, that's how "off" the power was. And, it didn't even come back on the day after, we were in Toronto till Thursday morning and still the waterfront was down, starting to come back, but mostly down.

We drove up for a big trip from South Carolina for anniversary celebration and planned the trip around the Phish show (my 30th and my wife's 24th shows). Since seeing the boys since 1995 I've never had a cancelled show, such a heart breaker. We had other things to do and Phish was only 1 night of our trip, but what a big night it was going to be!!!!!!! I can't imagine how sad Trey was that he couldn't play there again, sounded like he loved the place in 2000. Thank god for ATL at least, and the only southeast action all tour, should be a scorcher y'all
